The Syrian Orthodox Church is under the head of
His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I, the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East. The Orthodox church is one of the
ancient Churches of the world and has a membership of about one hundred
and twenty five million. The Orthodox Church is based more on worship and
living a holy life of love and service, than on preaching and proselyting. These
factors are the basis of all thoughts and actions, and also the reason for
its survival through periods of oppression.

St
Thomas established Christianity in Malankara (Kerala) in AD 52. The
close ties between the Church in Malankara and the Near East go back to at
least the fourth century. The church in Malankara is an integral part of
the Syriac Orthodox Church with the Patriarch of Antioch as its supreme
head.
The local head of the church in Malankara
is the Catholicose of the East, ordained by and accountable to the
Patriarch of Antioch. The mainstream of the descendants of St. Thomas the Apostle
have remained true to the original faith.
During the post-Portuguese
period, the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church came face-to-face with the
Roman Catholic Church, and later, during the British period, with the
Protestant Church. These and other vicissitudes resulted in small
break-away groups joining or forming non-Orthodox Christian denominations.
When many of the members of
the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church immigrated to America, they wished to
continue worshipping God Almighty according to the traditions of the
Church they left behind. Thus the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox
Church in North America was formed, which is
currently under the guidance and leadership of Archbishop
H.E. Mor Tithos
Yeldho (Archbishop of North America
and Canada). This church continues in the
faith of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church and is under the Supreme
Head of the Patriarch.

St.
Ignatious Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church is under the
Malankara Archdiocese of Syrian Orthodox Church in North America and
Canada. St. Ignatious Church was founded in 1977. Though the members at
the time were very few, they were able to purchase a church in the city of
Dallas. As the years increased, so did the members of the church. By the
grace of God Almighty, the currently located church was purchased in 1992.
Rev. Fr. Alias Aramath, our
current vicar and president, has occupied the position from 1991. We
welcome you to visit our church, now consisting of over ninety families,
and join us in worshipping God Almighty according to the ancient
traditions of the Syrian Orthodox Church.
